Trees continued:
When you plant a few hundred trees in a spring and have a goal to plant
at least 50 during a day of work on the project, you're not
landscaping, you're just getting the bare root trees into the ground
and the result isn't pretty, like this cluster of swamp white oak and
bald cypress in a low area of our farm. But eventually it turns into a woods and is pretty.
Sometimes you spend more time in hope that the result will be pretty sooner.

The tree on the left is a weeping willow. Granted, it's not a
slow growing long lived tree . . . but sometimes you've just got to
make concessions to beauty. The tree on the right is a bald
cyprus, one of my favorite species. These grow huge in the swamps
of the south, where I fell in love with them and I was tickled to death
to learn that they grow well in my part of Indiana. The pond
hadn't filled when I planted the tree and I wanted it to be at the
waterline so it would develop knees, part of roots which protude above
the soil or waterline. It worked:

The final picture is of Buddha getting a drink of water from the pond
beneath the willow tree. He's always nervous when drinking from
the pond because sometimes frogs jump or minnows dart and scare
him. Hey, he's not a sissy dog, we've got some mean looking
flourescent green-headed frogs in the pond. I'm lying: He's a
sissy.

nice. i haven't planted a tree in a long time. i need to.
I miss my willows well except for the mess of branches we always had to pick up after a little wind. They are pretty though.
I love the knee thing - I've never seen that before.
Buddha looks pretty huggable - who cares if he is a sissy.
God, that must be so wonderful to look out and see what you've done that will be there for years to come.
Whoa!! Very nice indeed.:)
Weeping willows are one of my favorites, although they are not a practical tree for "in town", I suppose. My neighbors have one, though, so at least I get to admire one every day!
There were several planted in a park close to my house where I grew up, and we often played in the spaces under the graceful canopies.
I would plant trees like that if I had the land. As it is, on our small lot I have planted 14 trees, I think.
When can I move in, LOL. What a beautiful property you live on. You are blessed!
Bobville is such a pretty place. We've only planted a few trees this year a crab apple, a Jonathon apple, and a cherry and 4 shade trees (which were bare root sticks). We've also moved several aspens around the yard, they keep threatening to take over...which would be okay if it wasn't in the little bitty bit of lawn we have!!
Buddah looks like a great dog. My Stella is a sissy dog, and Jenny, who we adopted yesterday, is most definitely a sissy dog.
the outdoors...very beautiful
I love nature. I am very fortunate to live in the woods.
Your dog looks fluffy
Very pretty. Love the dog.
Even if he is a sissy.
Love all of the trees!
